Seeing as the 4th of July holiday this year takes place smack dab in the middle of next week, my friends and I have collectively decided that we will celebrate with a camping weekend following the actual day. As last minute as we all are, we did managed to secure three campsites surf side in Ocean Shores, WA, a beach community about 90 miles west of our Olympia HQ.
To say the least, I have a few reservations about this trip. Number one, I haven't camped in about 20 years, like real tent, no bathroom camping. I'm more a hotel, daily shower, restaurant dining kind of gal. But I'm up for anything. A second concern is the weather. When Washington is beautiful, you couldn't imagine a more spectacular place to live, but the other 364 days of the year, leave a lot to be desired.
So, while we can just as easily bet on the Pacific Northwest coastal weather with the toss of a coin, we are forwarding on. With our never used, fresh in box, REI camping equipment in hand, 6 reasonable adults and 6 children ranging from one to eight years old, will forage in the forest, or, I guess in this case, the sand for three days and two questionable nights.
Water activities will be enjoyed, booze will be consumed, and fun will be had. I'll let you all know how it goes.
